1. COMPETITION ELIGIBILITY. This Competition is open to all photographers in the world.
2. IMAGE OWNERSHIP. By submitting an entry for this competition, the entrant certifies the work as their own and permits the organisers to reproduce all or part of the entered material free of charge for publication on a CD-Rom catalogue, on Internet Website and/or display in Media related to any Exhibition.
3. COPYRIGHT. The Organisers assumes no liability for any misuse of copyright by the entrant.
4. IMAGE AUTHENTICITY. The original image must be made by the entant on photographic emulsion or acquired with a digital camera. All images must be original and may not incorporate graphic artwork or photographic elements produced by anyone else. Any modification of the original image must be made by the entrant.
5. DIGITAL FORMAT ONLY. The image must be in digital format submitted through the Competition website www.maltaintphotoexhibition.com only.
6. NUMBER OF ENTRIES. Each entrant may submit a maximum of four works in each of the following three sections:
• A - Colour Open
• B - Monochrome Open
• C - Nature Colour
THE SAME IMAGE MUST NOT BE SUBMITTED IN MORE THAN ONE SECTION.
7. SUBJECT MATTER. Subject matter is Free/OPEN.
8. ENTRY FEES.
• 1 Section: Europe and Rest of World € 10.00 America $15.00
• 2 Sections Europe and Rest of World € 15.00 America $22.50
• 3 Sections Europe and Rest of World € 20.00 America $30.00
9. FEE PAYMENT. By following the on-line procedure of registration and up-loading of images the Fee required will be calculated and will be payable through PayPal in Euros (€) or American Dollars ($). Refunds will not be given for any images not conforming to these conditions and which are rejected before judging.
10. CLOSING DATE. 1st September 2011 at 24.00 hrs Central European Time.
11. JUDGING. Judging will take place between 9th September 2011 and 11th September 2011.
12. NOTIFICATION CARD MAILING. Notification of Acceptances will be sent by email by the 21st September 2011.
13. AWARD & CD CATALOGUE MAILINGS. Awards and CD Catalogues will be mailed by the 27th November 2011.
14. IMAGE FORMAT. The image file format is to be JPEG and the file resolution is to be 1024 pixels wide by 768 pixels high including any border in both diamension,any border should be no more than 2 pixels wide. Resolution should be set at 300dpi. Any images not conforming to this format may be rejected. Compression ratio when saving the file can be set at maximum. Colour space should be sRGB and file size should not exceed 800KB. Images not conforming to this format maybe resized or rejected and the photographer informed wherever possible but this is not guaranteed. There will be no refund for rejected images.
15. LABELING OF IMAGES. Images should be titled in English characters as the photographer wishes the image to be labelled in the catalogue. All other information will be collected from the online entry system.
16. AWARDS. A number Royal Photographic Society (RPS), Photographic Society of America (PSA), and Fédération Internationale de l'Art Photographique (FIAP), Gold, Silver & Bronze Medals will be awarded together with PSA & FIAP ribbons. Malta Photographic Society 'Highly Commended' certificates will be awarded in each section. All Award Winners will receive a Certificate for the Awards they have received. Accepted entries will be eligible for FIAP Awards and the PSA's 'Who's Who' and Stars.
17. MALTESE FALCON SPECIAL AWARD. This award is independant of all other awards. The Author of the Gold award photographs in each section will have their Gold Award Images judged for the BestOverall Image. The author of the winning image will receive the honour of holding title for one year of the 'Maltese Falcon' International Master Photographer Award and will receive certificated acolade of the position along with a miniture trophy depicting the Master Maltese Falcon Trophy. Their Name will be recorded in the roll of honour.
18. REJECTIONS. The Organisers reserve the right to reject any image prior to judging, giving a specific reason for such action.
19. JUDGING. All works will be judged by a panel of qualified judges at the Malta Photographic Society's premises. The Images will be projected onto a screen using a colour corrected electronic projector at a resoloution of 1024 x 768 pixels set to 16.7 million colours. Each section will be judged separately and the highest marked images assed for the allocation of awards.
20. EXHIBITIONS.
Public Showing. All accepted entries will be projected at the Malta Photographic Society's Annual Exhibition in Valleta, Malta. From 30th September to 7th October 2011
Public Showing. Malta Photographic Exhibition 2nd venue – Rabat Gozo. Dates to be advised.
• Website. All accepted entries will be included in the Online Exhibition available through the Malta International Photographic Exhibition web site.
• CD Catalogue. A CD Catalogue will show accepted images and will be mailed to each entrant, along with a printed Catalogue of Award Winning Images.
21. POST JUDGING REJECTIONS. In the event of any selected or award winning entry is later found to have violated any of these conditions, the Organisers reserve the right to take any action they deem fit, including the withdrawal of any award and the photographer will be informed of the decision.
22. ACCEPTANCE OF CONDITIONS OF ENTRY. Participation in this Competition and Exhibition signifies acceptance of all the above conditions.
23. ENTRY FORM. Entrance may only be made via the online entry system.
24. DEFINITIONS.
MONOCHROME
FIAP - A black and white work fitting from the very dark grey (black) to the very clear grey (white) is monochrome work with the various shades of grey.
A black and white work toned entirely in a single colour will remain a monochrome work able to stand in the black and white category; such a work can be reproduced in black and white in the catalogue of a salon under FIAP Patronage.
On the other hand a black and white work modified by a partial toning or by the addition of one colour becomes a colour work (polychrome) to stand in the colour category; such a work requires colour reproduction in the catalogue of a salon under FIAP Patronage.
PSA - A monochrome print is defined as having no more than one colour, but it may be any single colour.
NATURE
FIAP - Nature photography depicts living, untamed animals and uncultivated plants in a natural habitat, geology and the wide diversity of natural phenomena, from insects to icebergs.
Photographs of animals which are domesticated, caged or under any form of restraint, as well as photographs of cultivated plants are ineligible.
Minimal evidence of humans is acceptable for nature subjects, such as barn owls or storks, adapting to an environment modified by humans, or natural forces, like hurricanes or tidal waves, reclaiming it.
The original image must have been taken by the photographer, whatever photographic medium is used. Any manipulation or modification to the original image is limited to minor retouching of blemishes and must not alter the content of the original scene.
After satisfying the above requirements, every effort should be made to use the highest level of artistic skill in all nature photographs.
PSA - Nature Photography is restricted to the use of the photographic process to depict observations from all branches of natural history, except anthropology and archaeology, in such a fashion that a well informed person will be able to identify the subject material and certify as to its honest presentation. The story telling value of a photograph must be weighed more than the pictorial quality. Human elements shall not be present, except on the rare occasion where those human elements enhance the nature story. The presence of scientific bands on wild animals is acceptable. Photographs of artificially produced hybrid plants or animals, mounted specimens, or obviously set arrangements, are ineligible, as is any form of manipulation that alters the truth of the photographic statement. No elements may be moved, cloned, added, deleted, rearranged or combined. No manipulation or modification is permitted except sharpening, resizing, cropping, selective lightening or darkening, and restoration of original colour to the scene. No special effects filters can be applied. Any adjustments must appear natural
